One Mistake is All it Takes!

EVERY YEAR, THE Village of Pumpkinlight™ Cove’s October Nightfright—on the next to last Saturday in October, from 4:37 p.m. to 11:42 p.m.—becomes the must-attend community event of the year, for residents and tourists alike. Among the attractions—free hearse rides, live organ music, etc.—are vicious, brutal, nay, competitive contests such as the autumn talent show.

And allow me to stress, dear reader, that preparation is a must!

This year, I came upon a rumor that there was one Cove resident—Jedediah Smith—who wanted desperately to win the aforementioned talent show. So, to properly prepare, he reportedly entered the local town of Wollstonecraft’s Early-Harvest Juggling Extravaganza.

Plastic replicas, yes, but hand-crafted to provide accurate appearance and weight.

But as a friend of Jedediah’s recounted to me, Jedediah felt his juggling prowess, coupled with his smart tie and winning smile, could not, on their own, win the contest. He realized he needed an ace in the hole, a memorable gimmick worthy of the season that would spice up his act with real panache.

Unfortunately ...

After spending many days puzzling over his dilemma, Jedediah apparently discovered the perfect solution: juggling pumpkins and knives.

I was told Jedediah understood this was a bold move (daring, if you ask me). And he was convinced it would show the audience he was not afraid of a challenge. “Eureka! A skill of that magnitude could never hurt my chances!” he reportedly shouted one night, around 2:30 a.m.
